Around the world in 80 days with HY Runners
Have you seen the incredible challenge which the HY Runners team have set themselves this year?
They have decided to support the Hospice by virtually running around the world in 80 days, with the hope to raise £10,000 to support local Hospice care. Taking on the 24,901 miles are over 160 runners in Hastings and Rother, and beyond.
HY Runner and Hospice supporter Jemma, tells us why the Hospice means so much to her.
“In December 2012 my mother-in-law passed away in the Hospice after a battle with cancer. Four days later my dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. He passed away in the Hospice with my mum, sisters and I holding his hand on 30th January 2016.
Joseph and I both lost a parent who was cared for by the Hospice. They offer such an amazing service. We are so grateful to them for the care they gave to our parents (and to us). I will always do anything I can to help them.
This January marks the 5th anniversary of his passing. It’s never an easy month as it is, so this challenge couldn’t have come at a better time. Since dad’s passing I have raised thousands for the Hospice in his memory. I have run several marathons, 4 ultra marathons and have trekked the Sahara desert. Now I can say I’ve been part of the team who ‘ran the world’, that’s pretty cool!”
