Bernie takes a dip for 365 days
This week we heard from Hospice supporter Bernie, who is taking on a 365 day swimming challenge in aid of the Hospice.
“When the first lockdown began a year ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to work from home. This was fine but I needed to get out at lunch time for air and exercise! One day cycling along the seafront I just stopped and went for a dip in the sea. I carried on doing this and it became a daily routine.
After news of a friends death and my mum being unable to do voluntary work for the Hospice, I decided to continue my dip in the sea for the whole year. Come rain, shine, frost, snow and worse of all minus wind chill factors, I was determined to continue and raise money.
I have found it challenging at times to take a dip but most of the time I enjoy the experience. Now people are donating it keeps me focused and maintains motivation. I started by just wearing shorts and a swim hat to keep water out of the ears, and I have kept this going throughout the winter too.” said Bernie.
A very big thank you to Bernie, who has raised an outstanding £1,582 for the Hospice. What an incredible and brave challenge to take on. If you would like to support Bernie and donate towards his 365 day swim challenge visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Jayne-Korodi
