Plant Watering Volunteer

What is the role?

Our beautiful, large gardens are well-known and provide a relaxing and reflective place for patients, families and visitors to enjoy. During the spring and summer months, the containers and greenhouse spaces require a lot of watering to keep them looking lovely, which can take up to three hours each day.

Under the guidance of the Head Gardener you will be ensuring that all areas of the gardens are kept well-watered, so that they remain an attractive and welcoming space for our patients, staff and visitors to relax in.

What will I be doing?

• Watering of pots, troughs, and the greenhouse areas
• Being mindful of Health & Safety and personal safety in relation to moving and handling when carrying out tasks
• Complying with any social distancing and covid-safety measures required

Skills and Experience Required:
• Experience of or an interest in gardening is desirable
• A reasonable level of fitness and stamina, as this role requires some physical effort (carrying watering cans)
• Team worker
• Good communication and people skills, as you will come into contact with a wide variety of people using our gardens

Personal Qualities Required:
• Friendly, helpful and supportive
• Sensitive to the environment, and the people visiting our gardens
• Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative, but understand when to seek assistance
• Able to take instruction and follow procedures
