As my grandparents were both looked after by the Hospice, it was a charity close to my family’s heart. So when I needed to carry out volunteer hours, for my Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Hospice was the perfect choice.
This was my first experience of working in retail and I volunteered every Saturday in the charity shop. I helped in different ways such as; working on the till or organising the clothes. I really enjoyed meeting the shop volunteers, they were all so nice and funny, and I had lots of fun working with them.
Volunteering helped me gain confidence by talking to the people who visited the shop, and interacting with different customers helped me improve my communication skills.
